Purpose of the ARAM SESAA
A private association established for educational purposes through the creation, collection, preservation and sharing of resource materials related to Southeast and South Asian traditional architecture, specifically indigenous, Hindu and Buddhist architecture, and settlements (including religious and residential complexes, villages and cities).
Clarification of purpose
- The primary focus is to make and archive data related to historical architecture and archaeological materials related to the traditional architectural heritage of Southeast and South Asia, which will be accessible to architects, educators and researchers through:
- Documenting indigenous, Hindu and Buddhist architecture and settlements in formats intelligible to architects, with an emphasis first on physical, annotated, visual documentation and secondly on a digital format. In addition photos and architectural drawings or sketches to explain the built forms, texts such as captions and essays, reports and articles etc. must use clear, accurate architectural terminology. Resource and reference materials to aid the researcher regarding terminology and theoretical approaches related to architecture and the environment in the cultures of Southeast and South Asia. These resources are established in three ways: i) product of projects within the framework of the association by the ‘Contributing Associates’; ii) products of grants given to individuals by institutions and supporters; iii) contributions (images, articles, projects) given by individual scholars as ‘Contributing Associates.’
